Keeping the pickleball score with the app and the smartwatch

In pickleball the counting is the hard part: who scores, who serves, with which number, from which side. TennisScore keeps it for you, from version 1.4: choose Pickleball, tap whoever won the rally and the app does the rest, on the phone or from the watch. This guide shows how, step by step.

The format, before you start

In the new match tap the Pickleball box: the app proposes doubles, with the four names. Below, choose the points per game (11, 15 or 21), how many games (best of 1, 3 or 5), traditional or rally scoring and, for team play, winning by a single point. For singles just tap Singles: one server remains and the call has two numbers.

The two buttons say "Rally"

You tap the button of whoever won the rally, not of whoever scored: in pickleball they are two different things. If the serving side won, the app adds the point and moves the server to the other side of the court; if the receiving side won, it passes the serve to the second server or calls the side out. On the board the call "4 - 2 - 1" updates by itself and the ball shows who serves, with their number.

A rally entered by mistake is undone with the button at the bottom, as in tennis. With the voice on, the app reads the call one number at a time, and says "Side out" and "Second server".

Correcting from the lock

If something is off, hold the lock and tap the part to change: the game points, who serves and with which number, the team's starting servers, a game already closed. The rest is recalculated. From the lock you also switch on "Swap sides": at the changes of ends, after every game and halfway through the deciding game, the cards and the point buttons swap places with the players.

From the wrist, with the smartwatch

With a Wear OS watch choose "Smartwatch" as the source of the points and play with the phone in your pocket: one tap on the half of whoever won the rally, and on the screen you see both sides' points, the games won and the ball with the server number.

Game point and match point are not given with a tap: hold until the ring fills, so a game never closes by accident. A long press when it is not game point opens "Who serves?", with four pills in doubles: name and server number, to fix it on the fly.

Whoever is not on court

The match has a code and a link: in the app, or in the browser, whoever gets them sees the call and the games live, and with the bell receives a notification at the end of every game. At the end you find the result game by game with the service turns, the rally statistics and, if you wore the watch, heart rate and steps for every game.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to say who serves first?

The app starts with player 1 serving, as server 2 of the first call "0 - 0 - 2". If the other team serves, or another partner, change it from the lock before the first rally.

Why doesn't the button say "Point"?

Because whoever wins the rally does not always score: if they were receiving, they get the serve. The "Rally" button tells the truth, and the app adds the point when it is due.

Is there rally scoring?

Yes: in the format choose "Rally" and every rally is worth a point. The side out stays, because the serve still changes hands.

Does it work with my watch?

With Wear OS 3 or later watches, for example Galaxy Watch4 and newer or Pixel Watch, with the TennisScore app installed on the watch too and the same version as the phone.
